Mijas Photo Festival 2012, photography event on the Costa del Sol

Always active on the cultural front on the Costa del Sol, Mijas is organising a Photo Festival aimed at encouraging amateur photographers in the region to go out and capture the natural beauty, architecture, events, people and everyday moments of Mijas and surrounding areas.
Entitled ‘Discovering Mijas’, the competition is aimed at providing a new stock of images of the area and stimulating locals, residents and visitors alike to go out and take note of the beautiful, interesting and occasionally funny things that exist all around us. Some participants will undoubtedly focus on the olive groves, mountain views and the beaches and coves of La Cala de Mijas, while others will try to capture the essence of the town’s pretty whitewashed houses, cobbled streets and wizened ancients – not to mention the donkey rides for which Mijas Pueblo is famous.
The images sent in will be collated and organised into a photographic exhibition. Besides giving non-professionals the unique chance of being exhibited, the three-day event will also feature lectures, photo presentations and a host of workshops on a wide range of photographic disciplines ranging from portrait photography to weddings, nature, fashion and architectural photography. Among the speakers are some of Spain’s leading professionals, including Cristina Garcia - the first Spanish photographer to feature in the Magnum photo agency, Ouka Leele, and Clemente Jimenez, European Wedding Golden Camera Award 2010.
