Since its opening in 2024, Forum Marbella has rapidly positioned itself as one of the most distinctive and forward-thinking destinations on the Costa del Sol. Located in the heart of Marbella’s prestigious Golden Mile, it merges commercial and lifestyle offerings with elegant design and a community-first ethos.

Forum Marbella

We sat down with the team behind Forum Marbella (F) to discuss the origins of the project, the design philosophy behind it, and the impact it’s already having on Marbella’s evolving urban landscape.

What inspired the creation of Forum Marbella?

F: The idea came from our own lived experience. Having spent many years in Marbella, we recognised that while the city had grown significantly in terms of residential and tourism infrastructure, there was a clear gap in the commercial and lifestyle offering, especially spaces designed to merge daily convenience with quality and character. We wanted to create something that felt intuitive and part of everyday life. Not a shopping centre, but a place where people naturally come together, whether to eat, work, exercise, or just spend time. Forum is the result of that vision.

The building has a unique backstory. Can you tell us more about its origins and how the transformation unfolded?

F: Yes, the building originally served as the premises for a local radio and television station. Over time, it was sold and eventually fell into disuse. Reviving it was a challenge, one that required us to rethink the space entirely while retaining its potential. The reconstruction wasn’t just cosmetic. We had to accommodate a wide range of business types, each with different spatial and logistical needs, all within one coherent architectural framework. Every inch was carefully considered to make sure the final result was not only beautiful, but also fully functional.

How would you describe the architectural approach and design identity of Forum Marbella?

F: We wanted Forum to feel fresh and modern, but with a timeless elegance. There’s a distinct Scandinavian influence in the layout and logistics with clear lines, intelligent use of space, and a focus on user experience but it’s balanced with a strong Andalucian character. The craftsmanship is important. From the antique wooden doors sourced from Ronda to the handmade Parisian-style lamps and traditional Spanish stone pillars, everything was selected to give a sense of place. Forum is not about trends; it’s about enduring quality and thoughtful detail.

Sustainability is increasingly important in new developments. How has Forum addressed this?

F: Sustainability has been at the core of the project from the beginning. We prioritised the use of recycled and local materials wherever possible and incorporated high-efficiency systems throughout. Natural light and ventilation are maximised in the design to reduce reliance on artificial cooling. The exterior joinery was developed in line with Spain’s energy-saving standards to ensure optimal insulation and energy performance.

Beyond the building itself, we’ve integrated green areas throughout the site to improve air quality and create a calmer, more welcoming atmosphere. Our operational practices also reflect our environmental values—waste reduction, water conservation, and supporting tenants who are aligned with our sustainability ethos.

Forum hosts a diverse range of tenants. What guided the selection of businesses?

F: Above all, we looked for people who are passionate about what they do – experts and artisans in their fields. The aim was to build a curated mix that caters to everyday needs while offering something unique. So yes, we have restaurants and cafés, but also a bakery, an organic juice bar, beauty services, fashion and homeware, a fitness studio, an organic market and more. It’s a broad mix, but there’s a common thread of quality and authenticity running through it.

What makes the culinary offering at Forum stand out?

F: We’ve put a lot of thought into it. The idea was to cater to a diverse range of experiences, whether it’s a casual breakfast, a business lunch, or a dinner out with friends. The range of cuisines and atmospheres allows visitors to choose what suits them best on any given day. But the consistency lies in the quality: of the food, of the service, and of the overall ambience. Forum is a place where people come not just to eat, but to enjoy the setting, the service, and the sense of community.

How would you describe Forum’s place within the broader Marbella community?

F: Marbella is evolving. It’s attracting more full-time residents, particularly from cities like Copenhagen, Stockholm, and London – people who expect more than just beautiful homes, although of course they exist in abundance! They want thriving public spaces, independent businesses, places where they can live a full and connected life. Forum answers that need. It complements the city’s growth by adding something meaningful to its commercial and social landscape.

Has Forum had an impact beyond its commercial function?

F: Absolutely. Since opening, Forum has become a venue for a wide range of events, from Netflix premieres and charity galas to local Christmas markets, creative workshops and live music. These events help foster a sense of belonging, and visitors often drop by simply because it’s a pleasant place to be. That’s exactly what we hoped for. Our catchphrase – “Come in, hang out” – really encapsulates what Forum is all about.

And what can we expect in the future?

F: Watch this space! We’re exploring ideas for expansion and introducing new concepts, but always with the same guiding principles. Forum isn’t about following trends; it’s about anticipating needs and staying true to a long-term vision. We’re excited for what lies ahead.
